General FAQ

This is a work in progress, please excuse the messiness.

Q.
Why is the patch 300 Meg? Sounds rather large for just an English patch.

A:
The actual shift-jis Japanese text that was translated adds up to about 3 megs. The major reason the patch is so big is due to script recompression. The main script is located in 508 lzss compressed map files (along side non script data, usually located before the text). The lzss is custom so a recompressor had to be coded. Even though the leading non script data is usually the same, our recompressor would produce a file much different than the original compressed file. Also our recompressor compressed better than SE's, which was another reason why there is so much difference between files.
